Indlovu Aerial Trust is a South African conservation-oriented non-profit organization which in collaboration with SBI, spearheaded an innovative conservation project under the guidance of the Bearded Vulture Recovery Programme. This initiative was aimed at developing and implementing a solar-powered, state-of-the-art, real-time, video-streaming platform in the nest that is dedicated to monitoring and observing the bearded vulture, a species that is currently facing critical survival challenges. This project has set a new standard in wildlife conservation efforts by integrating advanced technologies, such as high-definition (HD) video streaming, Starlink high-speed satellite internet connectivity, and a comprehensive cloud-based content delivery network for broadcasting high-quality video streams.
The live video streaming aspect of this project can play a pivotal role in elevating public awareness. Broadcasting the often-hidden aspects of the bearded vultures’ lives to wildlife enthusiasts worldwide, these streams educate, inspire, and serve as a powerful fundraising platform.
This project is carried out with 3 goals in mind:
- Awareness and Support (Short-Term): Provide a technical platform to promote public awareness and support for the conservation of bearded vultures domestically and internationally.
- Awareness and Support (Long-Term): Create and sustain public awareness and support for the conservation of bearded vultures both domestically and internationally.
- Real-Time Observation: Create a technology-driven solution to film and broadcast high-resolution, real-time video of bearded vultures in their natural habitat. You can find this live stream on our website at sciencebasedingredients.com
This project is very successful. In 2024, we reached 80,000 views on the livestream coming from subscribers across the globe and 715 new engaged subscribers on the YouTube channel. We also achieved unparalleled observation during the breeding season allowing for key behavior and feeding findings. These observations were critical in the creation of breeding program updates.
